SUMMARY:Keeping the Tension: Deep Dive on Rope Handling
DESCRIPTION:Rope\, just like any flexible material\, can often seem to take on an attitude of its own. Especially when learning to tie\, it’s easy to encounter a frustrating number of flow-disrupting knots\, jams\, twists\, pinches\, and blisters. \nIn this rope handling class\, we’ll begin with targeted drills designed to help you work with your rope’s natural movement rather than against it. We’ll focus on healthy finger hooking\, running end management\, and smooth tail pulls in a variety of common situations. \nFrom there we’ll learn additional techniques and tips to achieve proper tensioning\, even wraps\, centered stems\, and clean\, tight frictions. Finally using a simple harness pattern as a framework to practice all these skills together and build your confidence\, fluidity\, and control so your rope starts feeling like a partner in your scenes rather than an obstacle. \nSelf tie or partner tie \nNo prerequisites \nSupplies: \n\n2+ ropes\nCutting tool\n\nClass is 6-8pm with and hour of open tie after. $20 per person. We recommend you bring something comfortable to sit on if you’d like (we will have chairs)\, layers in case you get chilly. Enter the building through the Norseman Distillery entrance.

SUMMARY:Connective Rope with Anoxia and Kasm: Tying sensually
DESCRIPTION:What makes rope feel intimate? Beyond patterns and technique\, sensual tying emerges through attention\, pacing\, responsiveness\, and the subtle ways we communicate through touch and movement. This class explores how to create rope that feels connective\, immersive\, and emotionally charged without relying on complexity or performance. \nPre-requisites: \nHumans planning to tie for this class must know a non-collapsing single column. Humans planning to bottom for this class should have some body awareness\, and the ability to communicate their needs when tied. This class does not require extreme flexibility or strength. \nThis class is not adapted for self-tying. Please register as a tying pair. \nEquipment: \n\n1-3 ropes\nCutting tool\n\n\n\n\n\nLocation to be provided to ticketholders prior to event.

SUMMARY:Introduction to Movement Rope with Anoxia and Kasm
DESCRIPTION:This three-hour\, hands-on class that distills the core principles of movement-informed tying—drawing inspiration from contact improv\, social dance\, and theater—to help rope practitioners explore rope as a shared\, responsive experience. We’ll focus on attunement\, connection\, and movement fluency\, introducing foundational techniques for incorporating improvised and intentional motion into your tying. Through guided drills\, partnered exercises\, and simple floorwork\, you’ll learn how to use your body to listen\, communicate\, and shape your tying in a way that prioritizes presence and play. This class centers on “yes-and” tying\, where curiosity leads and the rope follows. \nPrerequisites (for both people in a pair): \n\nFamiliarity with each other as tying partners\nAn arms-out chest harness that works for you both\nKnowledge of common rope risks and risk mitigation strategies\nPhysical ability to stand or sit for long periods of time\, and have basic standing balance\n\nEquipment: \n\n4-6 piece rope kit\nCutting tool\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLocation will be given closer to the event date\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Deepdive on Torsions: Understanding the Spine in Suspension with Anoxia and Kasm
DESCRIPTION:  \n \n\n\n\n\nGet nerdy about anatomy\, and learn about the biomechanics of torsion. This class will cover how to get in and out of torsions\, how to prepare and protect your body\, and offer some hands-on exercises to understand torsions more deeply. We’ll explore how factors like height\, harness\, body position\, and load point affect the torsions we can create. This class is a combination of lecture\, demo\, and hands on tying. \n  \nClass Prerequisites: \nFor folks tying: \n\nMust be able to tie a suspendable upper-body harness (ideally in a timely manner)\nMust be able to tie a suspendable thighs-together structure (can be a simple double-column\, or a mermaid/willow tie\, etc etc)\nMust be able to tie a suspendable single column tie\nMust know top and bottom lock-offs for uplines on a single point\nMust be able to assess and solve for nerve issues in your choice of harnesses\nMust be able to communicate with your tying partner in suspension\n\nFor folks being tied: \n\nMust be experienced in rope suspension\nMust be able to sustain multiple 20-30 minute sequences\nMust be able to safely twist in your spine to both sides\nMust be able to assess risk of muscle strain or injury in your body\nMust be able to assess and solve for nerve issues in your choice of harnesses\nMust be able to communicate with your tying partner in suspension\n\nPre-reqs are non-negotiable\, and students who do not demonstrate proficiency in the required tied structures will be asked not to suspend. \n  \nClass Materials: \n\nRopes for your suspendable upper and lower body ties (likely 3-8 ropes)\nRopes for your uplines (at least 3)\nRigging materials for single-point suspension (this can be a ring\, rigging plate\, carabiners\, etc)\nSafety shears or another appropriate cutting tool\nAnything else you might want for class (water\, blanket\, snacks\, note taking tools)\n\n\n\n\nLocation to be provided to ticketholders prior to event.\n\n\n\n\n
