SUMMARY:Intro to Suspension Lines
DESCRIPTION:(Location to be disclosed to participants after signing up.) \nEverything from hanger to hardpoint! This class will cover uplines\, the main load bearing vertical lines that run between a harness and a suspension point. Being the only thing keeping gravity from winning in a suspension\, strong hangers\, good handling practices\, and solid lock-offs are a safety must. \nThis is an individual-based class: you will not need a partner to participate. We will not be fully suspending any humans in this class\, but it is a lead-in to other classes on rope suspension an a strongly recommended prerequisite. \nWe will cover: \n-choosing a loading line: rope types and wear considerations\n-hanger options: when and where to use them -to biner or not to biner and how to save your bight\n-setting up the pulley system\n-safe handling for raising and lowering the uplines: how to use friction to your advantage\n-Lockoffs: single point\, bamboo\, and hanger side\n-finishing the leftover ends\n-common things that can go wrong and best practices to recover \nIndividual class: no partner component\nPre-req: any single column tie \nBring:\n2+ ropes: suspension rated preferred (such as posh/hempex/quality nylon/new\, larger diameter jute or hemp)\, and bringing multiple different kinds to try out is encouraged. \nSafety cutting tool \nBamboo/rings/carabiners will be available\, however feel free to bring your own ring and other upline-relevant suspension equipment if you would like to practice with it. \n

SUMMARY:Intro to Suspension Part 2: Anatomy of a Harness
DESCRIPTION:The second class in our suspension series will have us taking our harnesses from the ground to the air! \nOnce you’ve been trying for a while\, you’ll likely have small collection of harnesses that you’ve practiced and enjoy\, and may have dreams of flying them. There’s endless awesome designs of rope harnesses to tie\, but not all harnesses are created equal for suspension. \nIn the first half of this class\, we will be discussing the key properties that a harness should possess to make it ‘suspension worthy’\, and assess some common ties for those qualities. We will also discuss the roles placement and tension play in safety and sustainability. The ideal harness can look different for each person\, so we’ll spend some time discussing how the rope bottoms can listen to their body to develop preferences\, and keeping communication open between tying partners. \nWe’ll then use everything we’ve just learned to try out some harnesses! You will tie one of the harnesses you already know\, with guidance available for adding additional structure if needed based on the discussed qualities of a suspendable harness\, and considering placement and tension alongside your rope bottom. \nOnce you have something you’re ready to try out\, we will load test the harness to see how the structure moves under tension\, troubleshooting any issues or undue discomfort. We’ll have time to re-tie using what we learned\, or try a second harness that you know if you were satisfied with the first. In the end\, you will have a structured\, safely suspendable harness that you know how to tie and load\, as well as knowledge on how adjust for different bodies. \nThis class is for partner suspension or self-suspenders. Space is limited based on hardpoints\, so there are two types of tickets: \n\nHardpoint tickets (get one per rigger/self suspender)\nRope bottom tickets (get one per rope bottom)\n\nPrereq: Riggers/self-suspenders should bring to the class the ability to tie: \n\nOne upper body harness (arms in or out)\nOne lower body harness (hip harness\, booty basket\, futomomo\, thigh harness\, etc.)\n\nYou will also need: \n\nRope kit (you’ll need 4+ ropes likely) with at least one suspension worthy upline rope.\nSafety cutting tool\nOptionally\, your suspension ring/rig\, carabiners\, etc. (available to borrow if you don’t have any\n\nThe venue is a professional studio with hardpoints\, specific location to be provided to ticketholders privately. \n
